Do Not: Outsourced

Do Not: Outsourced is a service that delegates unlawful activities to places and people who can perform them legally. The project explores the infrastructure of rules and regulations dictated by institutions and physical space. How can the digital bend and manipulate these guidelines, both as rules and as markers of cities, neighborhoods, and buildings?

Do Not: Outsourced allows a person to follow the rules of their given location and outsource their desired deviant behavior to another location and person who can fulfill their request: Light fireworks, drink alcohol, fire a gun, smoke a cigarette, start a fire, play loud music, pet a pet (these Do Nots are dictated by the gallery location, Art Center, Pasadena, CA). Does a person still feel delight or risk just by observing someone else complete their desired task for them?

The project was completed in collaboration with Jiwon Jun, Kristina Ortega, and Shan Shen.

Installation
Set up within Art Center's South Campus gallery space, 950 S. Raymond Ave, Pasadena, CA 91105. Do Not: Outsourced followed the schools rules, as well as the city of Pasadena's, but allowed participants to perform these activities via an Outsource employee located in Eagle Rock, 4630 York Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90041 (where you can light fireworks).
